Product Guide

Learn DBVibe step by step

Install the desktop app, connect your database, browse and query data, then use DBVibe Agent or external MCP tools when you want AI help.

1

Quick start

Get the desktop app ready first. You can start free and activate a license later when you need higher limits.

  1. 1Download the installer for your system from the home or pricing page: macOS, Windows, or Linux.
  2. 2Open DBVibe, choose your language, and continue with Free edition or activate a Lite, Ultimate, or Team license.
  3. 3Keep the app running while you work. Saved connections, query files, AI Chat, and the local MCP server are all managed from the desktop app.
2

Connect a database

Create a saved connection so you can browse the database and allow approved AI tools to use it later.

  1. 1Choose your database type, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, MongoDB, Redis, or SQL Server.
  2. 2Enter the required connection details. For most SQL databases this means host, port, user, password, and database name; add SSL or SSH only when your environment needs it.
  3. 3Use Test before saving. After the test passes, give the connection a clear name so you can recognize it in the left sidebar and AI permission dialogs.
3

Explore and query data

Use the left sidebar to understand your database structure, then open query tabs or table views when you need the actual data.

  1. 1Select a saved connection to load databases, schemas, tables, views, users, indexes, or document collections depending on the database type.
  2. 2Open a query tab to write SQL yourself, save repeatable query files, or ask DBVibe Agent to draft a query from a natural-language request.
  3. 3Review results before exporting or editing. If you change records, use the preview and batch commit flow so you can confirm exactly what will be written.
4

Use DBVibe Agent and external AI tools

DBVibe gives you two AI workflows: the built-in DBVibe Agent inside AI Chat, and External Agent mode for MCP-compatible tools such as Cursor, Claude Desktop, and Codex. Agent skills add guided workflows for SQL optimization, dashboards, schema docs, data quality checks, and more, while custom skills let you save reusable instructions for your own database workflows.

  1. 1Open AI Chat and use DBVibe Agent for in-app help. Pick Skills: Auto or choose a specific skill such as SQL Optimizer, Dashboard & Report Builder, Schema Documentation Writer, or Data Quality Auditor.
  2. 2Skills guide the agent through repeatable workflows. They can inspect approved schemas, draft SQL, run approved queries, explain results, optimize SQL, audit data quality, and generate reports.
  3. 3Create custom skills from Settings > Skills when you want reusable instructions for your own workflows. You can scope a skill to all connections or to a specific connection, database, and schema.
  4. 4To use another AI tool, switch to External Agent, choose the saved connections that tool may access, and share only the smallest useful set for the task.
  5. 5Start the local MCP server, copy the command or address shown by DBVibe, add it to your external AI tool, then restart or refresh that tool.
  6. 6Before any AI query runs, review the permission dialog carefully. Approve only the connection, SQL, and operation you understand, especially for write or delete actions.
5

Transfer to another device

A paid license is active on one device at a time. Deactivate the old device before activating the same license on a new device.

  1. 1On the old device, open Settings, choose Transfer Device, and deactivate this device.
  2. 2Install DBVibe on the new device, open Settings, and activate with the same license key.
  3. 3After activation, your user data is restored for that license.
  4. 4Local-only data such as saved database connections and local files is not transferred automatically. Export or copy local data separately if you need it on the new device.
6

Renew or replace an expired license

When a license expires, renew the current license if you want to keep the same license identity and license-backed user data. Buying a new license creates a separate license identity.

  1. 1Choose Renew Current License in the expired license dialog to keep using the same license after renewal.
  2. 2Renewing the current license keeps license-backed user data such as edition status, server-backed AI usage and quota, extra AI credits, MCP tool-call usage and quota, and extra MCP calls for that license.
  3. 3Choose Buy New License or enter a newly purchased license key if you want to switch to a different license.
  4. 4A newly purchased license starts with its own user data. It does not automatically inherit license-backed user data from the expired license.
